BOM
Structured list of raw materials, components and sub-assemblies needed to manufacture a finished product.
What it means
A multi-level BOM shows hierarchy: a finished bicycle = 1 frame + 2 wheels (each wheel = 1 rim + 36 spokes + 1 hub) + 1 handlebar + 1 saddle, etc. BOM data drives MRP (material requirements planning), production costing, procurement and inventory consumption.
BOMs may be engineering BOMs (design-level) or manufacturing BOMs (production-level, includes wastage and substitutes).
