HSN Code

Harmonized System of Nomenclature — globally standardized 4-to-8 digit code identifying a product for GST classification.

What it means

HSN is a globally accepted product classification system developed by the World Customs Organization. India uses 4 to 8 digit HSN codes on GST invoices depending on the supplier's turnover and the buyer's category.

Mandatory HSN reporting: businesses with turnover above ₹5 crore must use 6-digit HSN; below ₹5 crore use 4-digit (mandatory on B2B invoices only). Incorrect HSN can lead to GSTR-1 mismatches and ITC issues for buyers.

How Easedesk handles HSN Code

Easedesk maintains an HSN master tied to item masters. Every invoice line auto-fetches the HSN, validates against the GSTN database, and flags mismatches before submission. HSN-wise summary for GSTR-1 Table 12 is auto-generated.
