How to create your first widget in Easedesk

Step-by-step guide to creating a widget in the Easedesk Dashboard module. Required fields, what happens after, and common gotchas.

Quick answer

To create a widget, open Dashboard from the sidebar, click "New Widget", fill in the required fields, and save. The new record is immediately searchable and triggers any linked downstream automations (e.g. accounting posts, notifications, approvals).

Step 1 — Open the Dashboard module

In the left sidebar, click Dashboard. If you don't see it, your role may not have dashboard.view permission — ask your Owner or Admin to grant it under Settings → Users & Roles.

Step 2 — Click "New Widget"

The list view shows all existing widgets. Click the New Widget button at the top-right. You will be taken to a clean form page with all available fields visible (we never hide important fields behind tabs).

Step 3 — Fill in required fields

Required fields are marked with a red asterisk. Tooltip help is available on every label — hover over a field to see what it does. Optional fields can be left blank and added later.

Step 4 — Save (or "Save & Add Another" for bulk entry)

Click Save to create the widget. If you want to add several in a row, the "Save & Add Another" button resets the form while keeping the page open. The new record appears at the top of the list view.

What happens after

Creating a widget may trigger downstream automations depending on the module — for example, posting a journal entry, sending an email, or starting an approval workflow. You can see all triggered actions in the Audit Log.

Editing or deleting a widget

Click the widget row in the list view to open detail mode. The Edit button is at the top-right. To delete, use the kebab menu (•••). Note: records linked to other entities (e.g. an invoice that has a payment) cannot be deleted — they can be cancelled or voided instead.

How do I create a widget in Easedesk?

Can I edit a widget after creating it?

Hard-delete is restricted for records linked to other modules. In those cases, the system will offer to cancel or void the widget instead so downstream history is preserved.
