# See who changed what in the audit log

> Open Settings → Audit log to see every change in your organisation, newest first, with who made it and when. Entries cannot be edited or deleted by anyone. The Owner, Admins, Accountants and your Chartered Accountant can open it, as can any role you give that permission.

In EaseDesk: Settings → Audit log

## Steps

1. Open Settings → Audit log.
2. Read the entries from the top. Each shows who made the change, what they did and when.
3. Check the detail under an entry, such as the email of a member who was invited or the role they were given.
4. Click Load older entries at the bottom to go further back.

## What is recorded

Every change anyone makes in EaseDesk writes an entry: documents created, issued, edited or
cancelled, receipts and payments, changes to customers, items and settings, members invited or
disabled, roles created or edited, and files uploaded or deleted. An issued invoice that is changed
keeps its number, and each change to it is recorded.

These are recorded too:

- **Support sessions:** an entry marks each time EaseDesk support signs in to help you.
- **Webhooks:** a record created from your website through a webhook shows as made by the person who
  set up the webhook.
- **Your data:** each full export when it is ready, each download of it, and closing the
  organisation.

## Who can see it

Anyone whose role has the permission **View the audit log**. Of the built-in roles, that is the
Owner, Admin, Accountant and Chartered Accountant. Staff do not see it; if they open it directly,
they see **You don't have access to this page**.

## Using it well

Look through it after month-end or after someone leaves, and when a figure does not match what you
expect. To limit who can make changes in the first place, see
[Choose what each person can do](/help/getting-started/roles-and-permissions).

## Questions

### Can someone delete an entry to hide a change?

No. The audit log is written in the same step as the change itself, and entries cannot be edited or removed, not even by the Owner.

### Why does an entry say A former member or System?

A former member is someone who is no longer in your organisation; their entries stay. System marks changes EaseDesk makes itself, such as a scheduled job, and support sessions opened by EaseDesk staff.

### How do I let my CA see the audit log?

Invite your CA with the built-in Chartered Accountant role, which includes it. For another role, tick View the audit log on the role under Settings → Roles.
