# EaseDesk and ClearTax: which fits your business

> ClearTax is mainly GST and tax compliance software that files returns and reconciles credit, often alongside your existing ERP. EaseDesk is where you run the business itself, billing, collections, stock and accounts, with GST returns prepared from those records.

## EaseDesk fits you if

- You want one system for invoices, collections, purchases, stock and books, with GST data coming from the same entries.
- You want payment reminders, customer statements and ageing so dues come in on time.
- You hold stock in warehouses or make goods, and want it in the same books as your GST.
- You want one plan, priced per user, with your CA on a free login.

## ClearTax fits you if

- Your billing and accounts already run in Tally, SAP or another ERP, and you want a separate compliance layer on top.
- You want to file GST returns directly from the software, including at PAN level for many GSTINs.
- You are a CA or tax practitioner filing returns for many clients, including income tax and TDS returns.
- You issue a very high volume of e-invoices or e-way bills and want to generate them in bulk from your ERP data.

## How they differ

The two products start from different ends of the same work.

**ClearTax** focuses on tax compliance. According to its website, its GST software files returns from GSTR-1 to GSTR-9C at PAN level, pulls GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B to reconcile input tax credit, and takes data in from any ERP. Its e-invoicing and e-way bill software can generate documents from Tally, SAP and other ERPs. It also offers income tax and TDS return filing, used by CAs and tax experts. For smaller businesses, ClearOne is its invoicing and payment collection app, with e-invoices, e-way bills, UPI collection and low stock alerts, on web and mobile.

**EaseDesk** is where your day-to-day business runs. You issue invoices, collect payments, record purchases and expenses, move stock between warehouses, run production and keep your books, and GST comes out of those same entries:

- **Invoices** carry the correct CGST, SGST or IGST for the place of supply, and the e-invoice and e-way bill files for the portals are prepared from the invoice, with the IRN and QR code printed on it once you bring them back.
- **Returns** are prepared from your records: the GSTR-1 file with its HSN summary, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B reconciliation and GSTR-9 data.
- **Collections** run on their own, with reminders before and after the due date and a payment link on every invoice.
- **Books** are always up to date, with trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow, and a free read-only login for your CA.

Where ClearTax goes further: it files returns directly from its software and handles many GSTINs at PAN level, which EaseDesk does not. EaseDesk gives you files to upload on the GST portal. ClearTax also serves CAs with income tax filing for individuals, which is outside EaseDesk's scope.

## Moving from one to the other

**From ClearOne to EaseDesk.** Put your customers, vendors, contacts and items into Excel and import them into EaseDesk, with opening balances as on your switch date. Start at the beginning of a month, after the previous month's GST return is filed.

**Using both.** If your CA files through ClearTax, they can take the GST data from EaseDesk as files or Excel exports. Any list or report can be exported from EaseDesk to Excel at any time.

## What each costs to run

**EaseDesk:** ₹490 a month + GST for the first user, billed yearly (₹5,880 a year), and ₹290 a month + GST for each additional user. Your CA's login is free. You can try it free for 14 days with up to 5 users, without a card.

**ClearTax:** see ClearTax's pricing page for its GST, e-invoicing and ClearOne plans.

## Questions

### Do I need both EaseDesk and ClearTax?

Most small businesses do not. EaseDesk prepares your GST return files from your invoices and bills, and your CA uploads them on the GST portal. Larger businesses with many GSTINs, or CAs filing for many clients, may still prefer a dedicated filing tool.

### Does EaseDesk file GST returns directly on the portal?

Not directly. EaseDesk gives you the GSTR-1 file and the GSTR-3B figures and file to upload on the GST portal, and it reconciles the GSTR-2B file you download from the portal.

### Can EaseDesk replace ClearOne for invoicing?

Yes, if you want invoicing together with collections, purchases, stock and accounts in one place. EaseDesk issues GST invoices, credit notes and delivery challans, prepares their e-invoice and e-way bill files for the portals, and posts every entry to your books.
